Question by East Turkish delight: China is home to more than one sixth of world population but when it comes to GDP China fails to compare?
The GDP of China is not even one tenth of the world GDP. Smaller countries like Taiwan and Japan show an excellent performance despite having small population. Why is this?

This is because majority of population in China is poor.
